Visit the World’s First Empathy Museum

empathy museumLaunched in 2015, the Empathy Museum is the first experiential arts space dedicated to helping us all look at the world through other people’s eyes.

By touring internationally, it will explore how empathy can not only transform our personal relationships but also help tackle global challenges such as prejudice, conflict and inequality.

The founder of the Empathy Museum, Roman Krznaric is a writer, cultural thinker and international expert on empathy. His bestselling books, including ‘Empathy: Why It Matters, and How to Get It’, have been translated into over twenty languages.

The Human Library

human libraryOne of their known project was the human library.  A Human Library is like any other library but instead of borrowing a book you can borrow a person for conversation – A Living Book.

They have run a program of Human Libraries in the UK and internationally and have presented Human Libraries at SOAS and The Whitechapel Gallery, London 2015 in partnership with Hubbub and two at Perth Literary Festivaland as part of LIFT 16.

This is how a Human Library looks like:

By talking to strangers from all walks of life, this "human library" is challenging the stereotypes we hold. (via NowThis)

A Mile in My Shoes

Another project is “A Mile in My Shoes”

a mile in my shoes

The Empathy Museum’s first exhibit is a shoe shop where visitors are invited to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes – literally.

With contributions that range from a sewer worker to a sex worker the stories cover different aspects of life, from loss and grief to hope and love and take the visitor on an empathetic as well as a physical journey.
