The Healing Powers Of Hair

Did you know that the hair on your head actually has healing powers?

Actually the hair on your entire body has healing powers– yes, even those little chinny-chin-chin hairs.

Think about the sensation you get when you hairs stand on end….. This usually happens when you instinctively know that something is not right.

What are your hairs trying to tell you?

It is believed that the tips of your hair are like antennae that gather energy from the Universe in order to stimulate higher levels of consciousness and creativity.

Hair is a natural extension of the nervous system and is said to transmit important information to the brain. It is also believed to balance the entire electromagnetic field of your body, which in turn can help you to increase your life force, vitality and intuition.

Many years ago, cutting hair was unheard of as it was believed to be an important extension of identity and heritage. In fact, only slaves would have their hair cut as it was believed to punish them into submission and take away their energy and power.

When Genghis Khan conquered China, he also ordered the people to cut their hair and have bangs as this was believed to inhibit the development of their third eye, intuition and knowledge.

To this day, there are many cultures that do not believe in cutting hair in order to conserve their energy and spiritual abilities.

The Native Americans for example, believe that through their hair they can connect to nature and the life force around them. It was also proven during the Vietnam war that Native Americans with longer hair were able to scout the land using their intuition better than those in similar tribes who had their hair cut.

The Sikh culture also believe that cutting hair can inhibit spiritual development and can lead to poor health. They instead, tie their hair in a what is known as a “rishi knot” on the top of their heads. This is believed to help control and regulate the flow of energy through the body and can assist in attaining higher levels of consciousness.

There is also the famous Biblical story of Samson and Delilah where Samson lost all his strength after Delilah cut his hair.

It is believed that cut hair takes about three years to regain its ability to send out and receive vital energy from the Universe. It is almost like cutting your hair makes your intuitive senses numb to the world around you.

Studies have also found that keratin, the protein in hair contains a crystalline structure that is similar to those of sacred crystals and gemstones.

So, how can you protect the receptiveness of your hair?

1.) Use Natural hair products: Placing chemicals on your hair and scalp is not only bad for you but it can also dull your receptive abilities. Choose natural or organic shampoos, conditioners and treatments. Dying your hair is also believed to block intuitive reception.

2.) Avoid Trims: It has been drilled in to us that trimmed hair is healthy hair, but why not work from the inside instead? Keep your hair healthy by eating a diet rich in fruits, vegetables and healthy fats. In order to nourish your hair and protect it from split or dry ends, apply a natural treatment of coconut or almond oil overnight.

3.) Avoid Blow Drying: Try to let you hair naturally dry in the sun. This is said to increase Vitamin D absorption and raise the vitality of your life force. Hair dryers also emit electricity which can tamper with the sensitivity of your hair and your third eye chakra.

4.) Don’t Over Shampoo: Allow your natural oils on your scalp to clean and protect your hair. Only shampoo when you absolutely have to.

5.) Wash After Stress: It is believed that after an emotional argument or stress that the hair can build up with negative energy. Washing your scalp after a stressful day can help to release and cleanse this energy.

6.) Brush with a Wooden Comb: Ditch the plastic and metal brush and go for a natural one made of wood. This is said to maintain the energy surrounding your crown chakra and to keep your electromagnetic field in tact. Wood is the preferred medium as it prevents static electricity and can help stimulate the scalp energy instead.

7.) Hair Styling: Many Yogis believe that you should wear your hair up during the day to help absorb life force energy and to stimulate the pineal gland and to keep it down at night to help absorb lunar energy and enhance spiritual perception.

8.) Cutting Hair: If you absolutely have to cut your hair, do so when the moon is waxing. This will help stimulate your hair to grow back quicker and more luscious. Also, avoid cutting your hair after the sun sets.

The hair on our head and body is powerful and gives us clues, not just about our physical body but also our emotional and spiritual body as well.

Try adopting some of these practices into your routine and see if you notice a difference in your energy and intuition.
