In This Amazing City People Live Without Politics, No Religion And No Money

amazing city

Upon learning this, you will think that happened long ago, but no. There is still a place to live, and not say for its scenery, but for their ideals as a society who do not follow the standards to which we are accustomed. In this town there is no money, no religion, no politics. This is truly a paradise to live.

Think only in a place where there are none of these factors, where you can finally live in peace.

This place exists and is called “Auroville“!

1

It was founded in 1968 and was hailed as an international city by UNESCO, as its inhabitants are over 50 nationalities and different cultures. They coexist without any problem, since they have a political system, have no religion, and on top, do not use money and getting all living through the system of exchanges.

Auroville is located in South India, 150 kilometers from Chennai in Madras.

2

In this epic city, the buildings are made based on an experimental architecture, as they are constantly changing. This is because these structures seek to optimize the use of renewable energies and their main objective: reuse and recycling.

The person who designed and managed to found this wonderful city was: Mirra Alfassa, better known as “Mother”.

3

“There should be a place on Earth that no nation could claim as their own; where all human beings of good will who have a sincere aspiration could live freely as citizens of the world, obeying one single authority, that of the supreme truth. A place of peace, concord and harmony where all the fighting instinct in man were used exclusively to overcome the cause of their sufferings and miseries, to overcome their weaknesses and ignorance, and to triumph over their limitations and disabilities. A place where the needs of the spirit and interest of progress precedence over the satisfaction of desires and passions or the pursuit of pleasure and material enjoyment, “was the idea of Alfassa.

From this hypothesis, we now have this amazing international city.

4

This city is positioning itself as a model of sustainable eco-city. It is a method developed by the multi-cropping, combining fruit trees, cornfields and orchards, organized into 15 farms, reaching an area of 160 hectares. In this way, they ensure much food, so supply the population.

In these farms work 50 villagers and 300 neighbors, producing 2% of rice and cereals consumed and 50% of vegetables.

Also, the village is also self-sufficient in milk and dairy products, and fruits in season.

5

Despite not being the only city that takes this model itself is special for receiving protection by UNESCO, and is a clear example of how it will be our way of life in a few more years, when Earth begins to manifest the consequences our mistreatment of her.

6

Definitely this city is an example, where one of its principles is healthy, both mentally and physical life.

we have nothing more to congratulate and wish all follow that model of life.Would you be in agreement with this new style of society?

If the world were like this, it would only take one corrupt superpower to destroy or enslave everyone. Sad truth. Otherwise this is beautiful 🙂

    • RedXShoes says:

I would venture that at the world already is enslaved and being destroyed by a corrupt superpower. A world like the one described would mean no acceptance of masters, superpowers or power structures at all. It would mean the end of enslavement. It’s called ‘Anarchy’.

    • Jasper Fox says:

yes, but if the whole world were like this… if we actually went through the effort to transform the entire civilized world in this manor, we would most likely be doing internal work, as well as the external work, meaning we would have been working on raising our individual vivrational frequencies, and in turn l, the collective frequency, to the point that things of that nature, all the crimes, they simply wouldn’t exist any more. there is a level we are ascending to in which there is no anger or jealousy or sense of lack… fear based, lack based belief systems won’t be able to exist on that high of a frequency… we’re already on our way… this city is an outward expression of our collective progress, vibrationally speaking…. ahhh I love you guys!!!

Now to integrate this city with the blueprints provided by Jacque Fresco in The Venus Project (who was recently given a NOVUS award by the UN) and create self-sustaining communities the world over who trade with one another and we are finally on our way to some sort of civilization. What makes me angry is that we should have been learning about this city in India in our 1970 era grade school books, not on the internet in 2016.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t expect to see people wake up in my lifetime so I’m glad to know at least some of us have gotten with the program. I think some of us were born a few decades too early 😉

Those commenting about crime and corruption… do you honestly think there’s going to be absolute perfection? This city has a hope for the future and your negativity is absolutely atrocious. Wouldn’t surprise me if the ones throwing out negativity were also the ones who would be responsible for the crimes.

  8. Vaska says:

“Built for 50,000 people, Auroville today has only about 2,500 permanent residents and roughly 5,000 visitors—self-selected exiles from more than 100 countries. Auroville wasn’t just some hippie haven; it was designed to be a poster child for India itself. According to a 1982 Indian Supreme Court ruling, Auroville is in “conformity with India’s highest ideals and aspirations.” The Indian government donates more than $200,000 to Auroville every year, and UNESCO has protected the township since its birth in 1968.

But for a professed utopia, Auroville has a laundry list of problems; high up on the list are robbery and sexual harassment cases in the non-gated community surrounded by local villages, but there have been more drastic cases of rape, suicide, and even murder.”

        utopia (n.)
1551, from Modern Latin Utopia, literally “nowhere,” coined by Thomas More (and used as title of his book, 1516, about an imaginary island enjoying the utmost perfection in legal, social, and political systems), from Greek ou “not” + topos “place” (see topos). Extended to any perfect place by 1610s. Commonly, but incorrectly, taken as from Greek eu- “good” (see eu-) an error reinforced by the introduction of dystopia.

I see some people are dedicated to bring the name and activities of this place to a low. The problem is not the place, it most certainly is people who corrupt things, not what the place is trying to achieve. I think some people Like Anne and especially Vaka are more than likely from another group, most likely Christian, who seem to be intent on attacking non Christian in India. Now if we was to look into some of the things that have happened directly in the name of Christianity you will find not only murder and rape, but Jihad of the most intense nature, ethnic and religious cleansing involving torture to anyone not believing in what they enforce and ultimately death and the destruction of other cultures.

Auroville is a great example to show what we can do as a species of people, sadly we as human cannot live up to the standard of what it is to be human.

There is religion there- it talks about Supreme truth- where is the supreme truth coming from? Doesn’t supreme truth mean objective truth not subjective truth- just curious- please explain….

  19. lorentjd says:

No politics, eh? From Wiki: “In 1980, the Government of India passed the Auroville Emergency Provision Act 1980 under which it took over the city’s management. The change was initiated when after the death of the Mother in 1973, serious fissures in the day-to-day management developed between the Society and the city’s residents. The residents appealed to Indira Gandhi, then Prime Minister of India for an intervention. The Society challenged the Government’s action in the Supreme Court of India. The final verdict, upheld the constitutional validity of government’s action and intervention.

In 1988, after the verdict, a need was felt to make a lasting arrangement for the long term management of Auroville. The city’s representatives along with Sh. Kireet Joshi, then Educational Advisor to the Union government met for consulations with the then Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi. Later that year, the Auroville Foundation Act 1988, was passed by the Indian Parliament. The Act stipulated the vesting of all movable and immovable assets of the city in a foundation, known as Auroville Foundation and the creation of a three-tier governing system: the Governing Board; the Residents’ Assembly and the Auroville International Advisory Council. The highest authority is the Governing Board selected by the Government of India.”

    There IS NOT utopia.

I think they meant that people were not distracted by “popular politics”…. but that’s just my impression. It would be up to the author if they want to clarify for sure.

  20. Sophia G says:

As someone who has lived there… I can say Auroville is not perfect, because human relations are not perfect. There occasionally happens that a woman can be followed and feel ‘not safe’, but this is so in many parts of the world. Also the money logic. They had the ideal to be without money whatsoever. It IS possible to live without money there still to this day, and in other places too. But it requires that you commit to understand the logic behind it.

Before judging: Did you know that this area where the community now stands was a barren land,
where nothing was growing? They succesfully made a barren land into a ‘garden’ with many tress,
showing a way of soil regeneration, long before even permaculture started.

The gov. might give $200,000 a year… but even so, put it into perspective… (If it is true) it’s not even a lot of money…
If they do get funds, ocasioanally they might need this extra money, as was the case in 2012 when a flood and hurricane left Auroville with many broken tress, some where lost by the water/winds many houses broke and roads impaired. so what’s the argument? Do WE live in a money-less world? No.
Why? Because it Takes PEOPLE, like you me and the ones commenting here to transition, to question, t go about into the solutions and possibilities.
consedending judgement and staying confy while critising the way some communities are not ‘utopian’ enough, or not working are NOT going to change it, in fact wont chage ANYTHING.

Instead of judging harshly and even hating… consider it’s place you do not even know, have had no experience at,
Try take this place for what it is, a human design with a possible transition.
Again, it’s not perfect… but where is it on Earth, as of 30 july 2016?

    So, instead of judging/comparing/criticising

Why don’t you just go there, or to any of the other of the dozen communities that at least TRY to offer the SPACE for something different to be experienced and CO-CREATED.

    PEACE!
Do your research, go to places to EXPERIENCE them, and don’t be hypnotized by the media!

    • lorentjd says:

Sophia, I first learned about Autoville when it was touted as having “no politics” and “no money”…and I thought that was a pretty bold claim. So, I looked into it and getting $200,000 from the Indian government is NOT “no money” and having the Indian government be the ultimate political power over Auroville means there are NOT “no politics”in Auroville. All I’m saying is those claims are bullshit.

  21. Sophia G says:

    Lorentjd …
Right. they are not ‘money free’ or politics free. But the Indian Government is NOT the ‘ultimate power’ over Auroville.
Auroville was “designed” by “The Mother” and “Sri Aurobindo”… Sri Aurobindo was a very ‘polically aware’ man, thought he was not directly involved in politics, as he was mainly a progressive “metaphisical” “philosopher”, or rather I would say, a visionary. (thought I would not consider him a philosopher, but a Sage, an illuminated Soul)
Politics for him, was not to have any power OVER man, as the “power over” is only he’s own (super)consciousness, but he was not against the integration of politics.
In fact he’s whole body of work is called “integral Yoga”, which kick-started the Integral Psychology movement in the West later.
So the Aim with Integral Yoga, is not to reject all things human, or society, or money, or politics,
but rather to integrate them into a higher potential (that he saw ALL humanity has), and thus by integrating and not rejecting achieving “Unity” (Yoga) –
in other words: to transform the shadow aspects/ the destructive aspects that do not serve the true human potential that is, as he saw, an Ascending potential, to much higher thought, action and way of living in harmony with nature and each other’s differences.

That’s just a bit about the vastness that this man was.

    Namaste!

    • Thank you for sharing your experience Sophia. I always wondered what it must be like to live there. What makes us human is our free will. We make mistakes, we are not perfect. But let’s not be foolish and judge someone who had the courage to believe in a better world and lead by example. Most of us only talk and dream about it. Let’s honour those who actually make it happen. Born in Zimbabwe of Indian descent we grew up believing that we were “better” off out of India. Visiting India and especially the village where my family are from changed that. It changed me. I found a simple clean, heartwarming community who had little but people took care of each other. I believe that poverty is a result of people with power and money destroying self sustaining communities.

Interesting topic, yet the article was so poorly written it was difficult to read. I am just intrigued enough to do more research about this sustainable community myself. Are there any editors for this website?

  26. DiCoio says:

I just want to know this: when they say “no religion,” does that mean it is forbidden? Or religion just isn’t in charge? Because if it’s forbidden, this sounds like it’s going to turn dystopian pretty quick.

And “no politics” but they have a political system? I call BS…

    • Alison says:

What is “Supreme truth” exactly…who determines it? Isn’t truth relative, subjective? Supreme truth is religion.

  27. I wonder if there are full-time scholars, researchers and academics in this city.

  28. Kokil Poddaril says:

This is incorrect information. Auroville does operate on money. There are stores and cafes and restaurants and all of them work on money. There are guest houses for people to live in and there is exchange of money. Please check the facts before posting such information

  29. Jaques says:

This is indeed eutopian & there are always going to be problems in any society. …..that’s the challenge. ….working through them to the good id all …….thats what makes for strength & long may these people go on to be an example to all humanity who want to live in peace

  30. Steve says:

Its about time, we need more places like it. Despite all the comments of crime and corruption, most crime is done by people out of town and second, they need money to sustain and offer to get people there even if they don’t have money. So long as they work.
If the whole world were like this, we would no longer need money. If all of India were like this, there would be much less crime throughout India, if only India became part of Auroville
