The beginning to creating anything is believing that you can.
On May 21st, after having just crossed over into quick-thinking Gemini, Mercury conjuncts the Sun, inspiring us to feel on top of the world and that life is full of possibilities. With Mercury conjunct Sun, with the Sun in Gemini and Mercury in Gemini as well, our zodiac signs and subsequent love horoscopes are in for a major change.
A conjunction in astrology means that two planets are meeting up in a particular sign within a few degrees of one another — in this case, Gemini. What’s really great about this is that both the Sun and Mercury move into Gemini on the 21st, and then conjunct directly after that, setting the tone for Gemini season and also for this particular Mercury transit, which will be in effect until June 4th.
In astrology, the Sun represents our sense of self and who we are, which is why our sun sign, rising sign, or Western horoscope tend to represent so much of who we feel we are, even if we take on other aspects to the outside world. It’s also the Sun that pulls us back towards ourselves, represented as traditionally masculine, and serving as our driving force for who we are.
In Gemini, it’s looking at what our options are — not necessarily that we’re going to take every single one that we see, but we like to know there are plenty for us to choose from.
After having been focused and grounded the past month with Taurus, looking at what’s real and taking inventory of our lives, now is the perfect time for new options and a little bit more fun. While Taurus likes the simple pleasures, Gemini wants to hang out, party, buy that plane ticket, and make the most of every moment they’re given.
In this case, we will feel ourselves wanting to kick up our heels a bit more as this conjunction takes places. We’ll worry less and all those small issues we’ve been trying to figure out while in Taurus season just won’t matter as much anymore.
But this isn’t just about ourselves and enjoying more of the impending summer that we all feel around the corner; it’s also about the plans we make, the conversations we have, and the activities we chose to participate in.
This is where Mercury makes his mark. When two planets conjunct one another, they create a shared energy, a powerful bond which we then feel heightened because of. We have the Sun (fire) coming together with Mercury (air) in Gemini (air) to let go a little bit, lighten up, take in more air, more space and enjoy more of this life.
When these two planets conjunct on the day they transit into this sign, we will all finally feel like the darkness of winter has passed. That, while perhaps it was necessary or even important, we can finally put to rest all of the themes we have been working through since the start of the new year.
Those thoughts of where to go from here, or what lessons we should feel like we’ve learned, even saying final goodbyes to people or situations we’ve resisted letting go of.
It’s finally as if we get to this point of wanting to be happy — not in a fleeting way, but truly happy with ourselves and our lives, understanding if we keep carrying everything with us that we’ve been through, we’ll never truly feel that way.

It’s air, it’s lightness, but it’s also freedom. Sun conjunct Mercury in Gemini is very freeing from routine, expectations, but also the limiting thought processes we can sometimes still have that end up holding us back. It’s those beliefs about what is or isn’t possible, and it’s those doors that this conjunction will tend to blow right open, enabling us to see options we never before knew existed.
Because of this, we could find ourselves doing or saying things thanks to Mercury that we had never considered before, which ultimately is likely to affect our relationships.
Often, Geminis are seen as fickle when it comes to love. A sign depicted as the twins, it’s joked that this sign never seems to know what it wants and changes its mind just as quickly. However, sometimes things that seemed important before will no longer seem relevant once in Gemini season begins, and that’s only emphasized with Mercury’s presence.
While it’s important to seize this positive, expansive energy, it’s also wise to remember to slow down just a bit; with so much air energy it will be easy to get caught up and want to move quickly into new situations and possibilities. So, especially if there are relationships that are no longer fitting or suddenly are a possibility, remember that we can go slow and explore our options without actually burning bridges.
This doesn’t mean that if we feel something as our truth, we shouldn’t express it, or that we should try to keep as many possibilities open, as that tactic can sometimes come back to bite us. But just go slow, let things be absorbed before acted upon, and remember that while fun is important, so are the choices we’re making now. They will align with the life we want to build, especially once Cancer season hits and we’re focused on family, connections, and home life.
Sun conjunct Mercury in Gemini is a wonderful time to try new things, to step out from the mundane, and to open ourselves up to all that is wonderful and beautiful.
But it’s also a time to pace ourselves and to remember that there is always a price to pay for the choices we make. That’s why it’s important to stay true to ourselves during this transit. Step out from the ordinary but stay close to who you are.
Life is meant to be lived, and there’s nothing that holds us back from experiences other than ourselves. Sometimes, all it takes is a moment like this conjunction for us to realize that anything is possible: love, happiness, success, and adventure, as long as we believe that it is.
